Online Courseware a Brain Power Booster

Online Courseware a Brain Power BoosterA recent study by a team at the University of California Los Angeles reveals that at least for middle-aged and older people, the use of online courseware and the internet in general stimulates centers of the brain that control decision-making and complex reasoning. Researchers claim this may help counteract the age-related physiological changes that make the brain slow down in later age.

Of course, activities like crossword puzzles and anything else that keeps the brain active mitigate negative physiological effects. Now this list includes activities like web-surfing and using online courseware. Rebecca Wood, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Research Trust, said the findings “add to previous research suggesting that middle-aged and older people can reduce their risk of dementia by taking part in regular mentally stimulating activities.” Along with learning from the internet or online courseware, social interactions, exercise and a balanced diet also boost brain power.
